Helpful Fountain Tips

Here are a few quick tips for fountain owners, to keep your fountain running smoothly.

1) If the water in your fountain is not flowing properly, be sure the surface that the water is running down is wet. For example, if you have a wall fountain that has a slate panel in the middle, you would want to wet the slate before turning on the fountain. This will break the surface tension of the water and allow it to flow properly.

2) Water splashing on the floor from your fountain? You can do a few things to slow down the water flow. First of all make sure you have the correct water capacity. Maintain a level of water that is no higher than 1/2" from the top of the basin. However, ensure that the basin is always at least halfway full as this, too, can cause splashing. Next, check your pump to see if it has an inline flow adjustor switch; if it does, turn down the flow. The water will come out more slowly, which should stop the splashing entirely. If this does not work or your pump doesn't have a flow adjustor switch, try adding some river rocks to the basin. This will minimize splashing and will also decrease the water sound. Also, make sure that your fountain is completely level. If it is askew even a little bit, splashing may occur.

3) Don't let your fountain damage the surface it's set on! In humid environments, fountains will often develop condensation on the outside of the basin, so be sure to place your fountain in a place where this moisture will not damage any nearby surfaces.

4) Be sure that you do not alter your fountain in any way. If you decide to change the hanging hardware, substitute a different kind of pump, permanently mark your fountain or otherwise modify it from its original state you will usually void the manufacturer's warranty. If you are having some sort of problem with your fountain, call the manufacturer (you should have received some kind of paperwork with the manufacturer's contact information in the box along with your fountain). The manufacturer can provide you with tips and tricks that are specific to the fountain you own, and can usually help you solve your problem or get you a replacement.
