Garden Project - How to Install an Outdoor Fountain
The most interesting gardens are constantly changing - perennials come into bloom, annuals are planted, butterflies flit about and birds enjoy the seeds put out for them. As summer approaches, your garden is prime for a new water feature that will create a stunning focal point, attract wildlife, and provide a soothing respite from day-to-day stress. During these hot months, the addition of a water fountain will make your garden more inviting, and turn it into a fun, lively entertaining area. Fountains that are built into the ground and have a very natural appearance make a span statement in a garden with an informal, unstructured feel. Installing this sort of fountain requires various materials including the main stone feature, a recirculating pump, plastic tubing, river rocks, a metal grate, and pond liner or a rigid container. You can either purchase the fountain feature alone and gather the materials yourself at a home improvement store, or get it in one convenient kit from a fountain retailer. You simply dig a hole in the ground large enough to accommodate the pond liner and wooden frame, place the frame and pond liner inside, connect the pump to the water feature with the plastic tubing, place the pump inside the hole, place the water feature on the concrete pedestal, and then cover the top with the galvanized grate. Fill the hole with water, cover the grate with some river rocks and voila - you have a beautiful, custom-installed new water fountain for your garden.
