Caring for Acrylic Fountains

Acrylic water fountains can really add a punch of elegance and modernity to any room. These fountains are works of art within themselves, and bring not only aesthetic beauty to their enviroment, but also the soothing sound of flowing water. But how do you care for them? It's not quite as easy as just wiping them clean - learn how to keep your acrylic fountain looking new and beautiful.

Like all products, it is important to use the proper cleaning solution to keep your acrylic fountain looking great. A wonderful product that we use ourselves, and recommend highly is Novus Plastic Polish. This product is widely available - just check your local hardware store.

When cleaning your acrylic fountain, wipe it gently with a soft cloth or chamois. Also be sure to apply enough plastic cleaner to actual acrylic and to the cloth.

Like beautiful wood or fine silver, acrylic can scratch. This is true for any product made from acrylic - but luckily, unlike other materials, a scratch on acrylic can be removed. Minor scratches can be visibly removed by using the Novus Polish and a cloth. Deeper scratches can be removed by purchasing restoration kits, which can also be found at your local hardware store. If they don''t have it, they can likely order it for you at a minimal cost.

One thing to keep in mind is not using harsh products that can harm the finish of the fountain. Do not use window cleaning fluids, scouring compounds, gritty cloths, household scouring compounds, lacquer thinner, benzene, leaded or ethyl gasoline or span solvents such as alcohol, acetone, or carbon tetra chlorine. Keep away from excess heat or open flame.
