Bluestone is real stone. It is similar to slate in that it is a metamorphic sandstone that cleaves in layers. Bluestone is harder than slate and tends not to split or flake nearly as much as slate. Also, bluestone shows water better when wet. With some types of slate it is hard to tell which parts are wet.

Your "Off The Wall" Water Sculpture is made from natural bluestone which varies in color from blue to gray to brown or even mauve. Bluestone also may contain iron, pyrite or lime deposits, creating a patterned effect. These varied & rich surface textures enhance the unique character of the sculpture.
